 Job Description
About the Customer Owned Banking Association (COBA)

Established in 2006, the Customer Owned Banking Association (COBA) is the peak body and industry association for Australian mutual banks, credit unions and building societies. As well as acting as the lobby group for the industry on public affairs and regulatory issues, COBA also provides a limited range of professional services to members.

COBA is the industry advocate for Australia's customer owned banking sector. It is owned by its 72 member institutions: 51 credit unions, 3 building societies, 16 mutual banks and 2 others; and a number of affiliate members. With a strong revenue base and teams based in Sydney and Canberra, COBA aims to challenge the dominance of the major banks across the country.

About the Opportunity

COBA now has a high-profile position for a CEO to join their team based in Sydney CBD on a full-time basis. Reporting directly the COBA Board, this is a critical position within the organisation and has carriage of COBA's core advocacy, lobbying and member services delivery, as well as ensuring the engagement and continued support of COBA's members.

The successful candidate will be offered an executive contract on a permanent basis. The remuneration on offer is reflective of the seniority of the position and will include salary packaging options such as novated leasing and on site car parking, compulsory superannuation and Short-Term Performance Incentive (STI).

About You

To be successful in this position you will have tertiary qualifications in business, law, policy or relevant field and extensive experience working at an Executive Management level. Advocacy is a critical component of this role and as such, the ability to establish political networks and a track record in managing advocacy and lobbying agendas will also be key to your success.

COBA is looking for an energetic and hands-on leader with the capacity to inspire the COBA team and members from the front and bring a sense of energy and urgency to advocacy, innovation and business growth.

You will have strong negotiation skills which will assist you in navigating the internal sector dynamics and the external agenda and high standards of ethics and commitment to transparency and accountability.
